Kano: Little girl “thrown into well by jealous step-mother”

A girl reportedly spent two days inside a well in Kano after she was allegedly thrown in by her step mother.

The incident happened in Gayawa village, Ungoggo local government area of the state. Fire fighters rescued the girl the old well.

Three women have been arrested in connection to the incident, state police spokesperson Magaji Majiya said in a statement.

“We have arrested three women in connection with the case and they are now in our custody assisting us in our investigation,” he said.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Rabiu Yusuf has directed the transfer of the case to the state Criminal Investigation Department, for proper investigation.”

The three women were arrested on Sunday after the girl’s father reported the case to the police. It’s not clear if the step mother who allegedly committed the act is among those now being detained.

Police said anyone found to have broken any law would be charged to court.
