Kaduna Celestial church debunks claim that worker was used for ritual

A Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Kaduna has debunked claims that it used one Sylvester Friday for rituals.

The 21-year-old had drowned while doing construction work at one of the parishes of the Church about a week ago.

An irate mob believed Friday was used for ritual and went on rampage, burning the church and a police outpost. They also set a SUV car belonging to a church member ablaze.

The Head of Kaduna State Province, Evangelist (Dr.) Sam Atolagbe said it was not the first time the church would engage Friday’s services in its effort to prevent perennial erosion which has taken over parts of the church.

Atolagbe said the incident was an accident, with no spiritual inclination as claimed by the irate youths.

“On behalf of the entire members of CCC worldwide, we wish to express our deepest condolence to the family of Sylvester Friday over the tragic loss of their son,” Atolagbe said.

He said he intended to “set the record straight following media reports alleging that the Shepherd, Superior Evangelist Steven Babatunde Shittu was responsible for the death of the boy.”
