JUSTICE: Woman gets N20m after enduring brutal torture by police in Ekiti

A woman has won her case against the Ekiti State Police Command after she was unjustly brutalised.
Mrs Sola Aregbesola, 51, had been unlawful detained, chained and tortured for over three days by operatives of Ilawe Police station.
She was arrested following a dispute between her and her husband’s mistress in October 2016.
The mistress was said to have bathed Aregbesola with hot soup, causing her grievous bodily harm, before ordering her arrest.
The mother of five claimed that she lost the use of one of her eyes as a result of the brutality she suffered in the hands of the policemen.
A High Court sitting in Ikere Ekiti ordered the state police command to pay Aregbesola a sum of N20m in damages.
The presiding Judge, Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi, also awarded another N250,000 cost against the police to cover the medical expenses of the woman as a result of the unlawful detention and beating she suffered.
