A Nigerian journalist lost goods worth about N6m in the fire which gutted a part of the Abakpa Main Market in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.

The fire which is being described as mysterious began around 3:00am on Monday and destroyed over 16 shops and warehouses.

Aaron Onuorah who works with Anambra state owned National Light Newspaper said his electronics shop was caught in the inferno.

Onuorah said the fire took everybody by surprise.

“Before I could realise what was happening and make efforts to remove my goods, the fire burnt so fast that I couldn’t salvage anything. The goods in my shop are worth over N6million,” he told Premium Times.

The State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, chairman, Evangelist Ephraim Onoye said firefigters did their best to salvage the situation.

Just last Friday, a similar fire outbreak in another part of the state led to the death of about 8 persons..
