For Nigeria’s sake, it is past time Buhari resigned as president – Dele Olojede
For the sake of his country— and one should never say this lightly— it is past time Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari resigned the presidency. For the simple and undeniable fact that he is unable to do the job.
Mr. Buhari is literally presiding, meekly and unperturbed, over the painful unraveling of the country. His presidency is a failure of the most spectacular kind. The basic functions of the presidency are beyond his grasp.
I take no joy in this; we all had high hopes for a different outcome. But we must accept the facts as they present themselves: for the sake of our children, who are kidnapped daily and millions of whom are not even in school at all, Buhari must go.
The constitution prescribes an orderly transition. The Vice President takes over for the remainder of the term, and in two years we get another chance to vote and hopefully do better than we have done.
In the name of decency and love of country, Buhari should resign the presidency at once. There is honor in acceptance of the obvious.
