ImeIme Umana: 24-year-old Nigerian becomes first black female president of Harvard Law Review
Although it’s been 27 years since the Harvard Law Review appointed its first black president (the man who went on to become the first black president of America, Barack Obama) and 41 years since a woman first held that post, a black woman has become the president of the most prestigious law school journal in the world.
ImeIme Umana, 24, the third daughter of Nigerian immigrants was elected by her peers to be the president of the 131st review.
The Harvard Law Review is the most widely circulated law school journal across the world.
ImeIme credits her parents for helping her believe she could achieve anything she wanted as well as a mentor that took her under her wings when she got to Harvard, another Nigerian, Ruth Okediji who graduated from Harvard Law School in 1991.
