ICPC Arrests Former Naval Chief Usman Jibrin Over Alleged N3 Billion Fraud

In a major crackdown on corruption, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested Usman Jibrin, a former Chief of Naval Staff, over allegations of diverting more than N3 billion in public funds.

Jibrin, who served as Nigeria’s top naval officer between 2014 and 2015, was taken into custody alongside Adam Yusuf, a deputy commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State. Yusuf, who had been on the run, was reportedly arrested at his residence in Gwagwalada, Abuja, and is now set to face prosecution.

According to a statement signed by Demola Bakare, ICPC’s Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, the elaborate fraud scheme allegedly involved the use of 92 fictitious companies, none of which were registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The anti-graft agency revealed that Jibrin allegedly orchestrated the scheme through Yusuf and former Brigadier General Ishaya Bauka Gangum (RTD.), siphoning billions of naira through Lahab Integrated, Gate Coast Properties, and other affiliated companies.

The investigation led to the discovery of over 18 properties, including filling stations, allegedly acquired through illicit funds. So far, four properties have been forfeited to the government, while legal proceedings continue over the remaining assets.
