Ibas Unveils New Leadership for Rivers Civil Service and Local Government Commissions
Ibok-Ete Ibas, the sole administrator of the state, has officially appointed new chairmen and members for the civil service and local government service commissions. This decision, announced in a statement on Wednesday by Ibibia Worika, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), takes effect immediately as of April 7.
Livinus Bariki has been named chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, while Isreal Amadi will head the Local Government Service Commission. The appointments come at a critical time, following a tumultuous period in the state’s political landscape.
The newly appointed members of the Civil Service Commission include Lot Peter Egopija, Maeve Ere Bestman, Joy Obiaju, and Charity Lloyd Harry. Meanwhile, the Local Government Service Commission welcomes Linus Nwandem, Christabel Ego George Didia, Tonye Willie D Pepple, Richard Ewoh, Emmanuel Ofik, and Sammy Apiafi to its ranks.
This latest development follows Ibas’s recent suspension of all boards, parastatals, and commissions, along with the dismissal of political appointees previously installed by the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Just days prior, on March 25, Ibas announced the resignation of George Nwaeke from his role as head of service.
Since President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State due to ongoing political crises and the vandalism of oil facilities, Ibas has been at the helm of the state’s affairs. The president’s actions also included the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers Assembly for an initial six-month period.
As Rivers State navigates these turbulent waters, the newly appointed leaders will play crucial roles in restoring stability and governance in the oil-rich region.
