HERO: Borno civilian stops suicide bomber from blowing traders, buyers to pieces
A member of a vigilante group has landed in hospital after thwarting the plan of a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber to wreak havoc on traders and other civilians at a crowded market in Borno State.
Reports say the vigilante, who may not be named for security reasons, accosted the bomber who was heading towards Rumirgo Market in Askira Uba Local Government Area of the state, on Saturday morning.
“In the process of interrogation, the suspected terrorist blew himself off and died on the spot,” a colonel in the Nigerian Army, reportedly said in a statement, Saturday.
“The vigilante member sustained injuries and has been rushed to hospital for medical treatment by troops.
“The situation is under control as people go about their normal businesses. The Nigerian Troops have has been placed on maximum alert to forestall further attack.”
The Army is urging Nigerians to be security conscious.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is also urging the public to report any suspicious movement or thing round them to the appropriate authorities.
