Helicopter crash: Bristow to pay Peter Bello’s family, other victims, survivors over N230 milllion compensation
The International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) expects Bristow Helicopters Services is to pay at least $1.2 million (about N238 million) as compensation and damage to families of victims and survivors of the ill-fated helicopter that crashed last Wednesday.
Six people; including 26-year-old Nigerian co-pilot, Peter Bello; died in the crash. The American pilot of the helicopter also died in the accident.
There were 12 people aboard the aircraft when it crashed into the Lagos lagoon. Only six of them survived. They are reportedly in intensive care at a private hospital in Lagos.
According to ICAO each victim is entitled to $100,000, a report by BusinessDayOnline says.
They are supposed to get $30,000 as initial payments shortly after the accident and then get the remaining $70,000 three months after the crash..
