Heavy rainfall triggers flooding across Lagos
Several parts of Lagos were flooded on Thursday following hours of heavy rainfall across the state. The downpour left many roads waterlogged, slowing movement and causing traffic congestion in affected areas.
Motorists and commuters struggled to move through flooded roads in parts of Badagry, Ajah, Ikeja, Surulere, Maryland, and Abule Egba, while some residents were seen wading through floodwaters.
In some areas, vehicles broke down after being submerged in water, forcing drivers to seek alternative routes. The flooding comes amid recurring concerns over poor drainage and blocked waterways in parts of the state during the rainy season.
The Lagos State Government has previously attributed persistent flooding in parts of the city to blocked drainage systems, illegal structures on waterways, and the impact of climate change.
