Hamzat steps down from Lagos governorship race, backs Sanwo-Olu
September 29, 2018
Obafemi Hamzat has stepped down from the governorship race in Lagos State and thrown his weight behind another aspirant, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The former state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure said on Saturday that he trusts Sanwo-Olu to deliver food governance to the people of the state.
“I can vouch for Sanwo-Olu’s integrity and personal intelligence,” Hamzat said.
Hamzat’s decision to withdraw from the race a day before the APC governorship primary election now means Governor Ambode only has to test his popularity against Sanwo-Olu.
In 2014, Hamzat was also forced to pull out of the race after the APC selected Ambode as its candidate in the 2015 election.
The election to determine the party’s candidate holds Sunday, September 30.
