A group of terrorists, Wednesday morning, stormed a university in northwestern Pakistan and opened fire on students and teachers, reports say.

At least 30 persons have been reported dead while up to 50 persons are said to be injured.

The death toll, including four of the attackers, is expected to rise.

The attackers got into the campus at around 09:30am local time by climbing over the back wall where the university guesthouse is located, BBC reports.

A gun battle lasting for two hours followed the assault. Eyewitnesses also report hearing explosions, which, NDTV reports, were up to seven.

According to reports, 3,000 students were on the campus along with 600 guests attending a poetry recital at the time of the attack.

Pakistan Taliban militants have already claimed responsibility for the attack.

The same group killed 130 students at a school in Peshawar, about 50km from the venue of the latest attack, in 2014.

“Those who kill innocent students and civilians have no religion,” Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said.

“We are determined and resolved in our commitment to wipe out the menace of terrorism from our homeland,” he added..
