Gunmen abduct Abia APC chairman ahead of Buhari’s rally in Aba
The state chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia state, Donatus Nwamkpa has been abducted by unknown gunmen on his way to Aba.
Nwamkpa’s kidnappers reportedly accosted him along the Osisioma axis of Aba-Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway and took him away with one of his aides.
The incident occured just some hours away to the visit of President Buhari to Abia state as he expects to conduct a rally at Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, the commercial hub of the state.
Reacting to the abduction of the party chieftain, the APC Publicity Secretary in Abia, Benedict Godson said that the move was a ploy to disrupt the president’s visit to the state.
“We know that there are some persons in the opposition party who might have done this in collaboration with some persons in our own party and we are telling them that this is not the right way to play politics,” he said.
Godson disclosed that the party has reported the incident to security agencies in the state and they’re confident that the chairman will be safely rescued.
He declared that this distraction will not deter the president’s intended visit to the state today.
