Graphic Content Warning: Crazy Nigerians MUST make burning to death of teenager last act of jungle justice
Jungle justice and mob attacks have quite sadly, become a prevalent first-option measure in combating crimes in Nigeria.
Rushing to set fire on criminals – guilty or innocent – have now worryingly been deemed an appropriate measure of justice by some Nigerians and the only logical explanation (if there is any) is that the heartless acts mainly serve as much of a thrilling spectacle to some blood-thirsty monsters.
Merely standing by to watch an act of jungle justice should be punishable by law, yet many get away with being perpetrators of such inhumane crime.
Photos from a mob attack on an alleged thief, reported by some online blogs to be a 7-year-old boy who attempted to steal garri have gone viral, and it reeks of disgusting intolerance.
Many have wondered and lamented why a ‘child’ that young could be subjected to such cruel fate without pity.
The heart-wrenching photos have provoked emotions from several ‘reasonable’ Nigerians as well as this writer and in a bid to get a grip on the actual offence and status of the jungle justice victim, NewsroomNG found out that there is a slight variation from what was reported by some blogs.
“Yes, i saw pictures of when he was caught, being beaten, before being burnt,” a witness who craved anonymity told NewsroomNG.
“Dude has a fully grown pubic, must be in late teens,” he however said, contradicting viral reports that the alleged thief was a 7-year-old.
The witness who maintained an assuring stance, further revealed that the incident occurred on Saturday morning at Orile Lagos, thereby contradicting reports that it happened in an area in Badagry.
“Yes, at Orile. He was part of a gang terrorizing the area, there’s a little pathway close to a canal where people pass since they fenced the rail line being constructed, they are of the habit of boxing loners and robbing them of valuables, and more often than not, injuring them,” he explained.
Now, irrespective of the victim’s age or whatever he stole – it could be all of Nigeria’s treasury for all this writer cares – there are law enforcement bodies littered around the country for a reason. Even those who have looted us dry have had repeated shots at freedom to steal again.
And it is not even tenable to bring our police force’s at times, compromising nature into this.
Looking at those pictures (hard to look at them more than once) and a not-too-distant memory of the ALUU 4 victims spring to mind.
And indeed, there are countless of them.
Stop jungle justice Nigerians, just STOP!!!
