Hunger Protest: Governor Sani Lifts Curfew in Kaduna and Zaria Environs

The Kaduna State Government has announced the immediate lifting of the 6 pm to 8 am curfew previously imposed on Kaduna and Zaria towns and their surrounding areas.

This decision, made by the Kaduna State Security Council, follows a comprehensive review of the security situation in the affected regions. The curfew had been implemented to manage security concerns arising from recent unrest but has now been lifted due to improved conditions.

“After a thorough review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs, the Kaduna State Security Council, led by Governor Uba Sani, has decided to completely remove the current 6 pm to 8 am curfew,” said Samuel Aruwan, Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

On August 5, the state government imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna, the capital city, and Zaria, following widespread protests during the Hunger Protest, which included some protesters displaying the Russian flag.

While the 24-hour curfew was eased on August 7, restricting movement from 6 pm to 8 am daily, it has now been entirely lifted effective August 13.

“With this development, law-abiding citizens are free to move about and engage in lawful activities without restriction in Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs,” Aruwan stated.
