Gordon Obua: Nigerians wait for SSS to clarify whether detained Jonathan’s ex-CSO is dead or alive

Reports say Gordon Obua, former chief security officer (CSO) to former President Goodluck Jonathan, is not dead – but the folks who reportedly arrested him are yet to confirm or deny his rumoured passing.

Reports say Obua has been in the custody of Nigeria’s SSS in Abuja since last Thursday, and was denied food and medication. He is said to be hypertensive and diabetic.

The SSS is detaining Obua, we gathered, as part of an elaborate probe into security spending and alleged oil theft under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The SSS, last week, also placed Jonathan’s former NSA Sambo Dasuki under house arrest. Dasuki, after he was released, protested that the “low-level” officers denied him access to his family but allowed his dog keeper in.

Obua was protesting his own detention by refusing to eat. The hunger strike, and the reported refusal of the SSS to allow Obua’s doctors tend to his health, led to a terrible incident on Monday night, reports say.

Obua slumped and was rushed to hospital, an SSS source told local media.

“But he didn’t die,” the source was reported to have said. Obua is reported to have been stabilized and returned to SSS coffers.

Social media cannot figure whether Obua is dead or alive. Everyone’s waiting for the SSS to confirm either side of the report.
