Ganduje Declares PDP on Brink of Collapse, Dismisses Claims of APC Implosion

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has launched a scathing attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring the opposition party is heading toward political extinction.

Ganduje’s remarks came in response to comments made by Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State and a prominent PDP stalwart, who suggested that the ruling APC is on the verge of disintegration and that several of its leaders — including Ganduje — would eventually return to the PDP fold.

Describing Lamido’s comments as “baseless and illogical,” Ganduje, in a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, dismissed any possibility of defecting to what he termed a “failing opposition.”

“In fact, we will soon receive Sule Lamido into the APC because very soon, he won’t have anywhere else to go. The PDP is dead,” Ganduje said.

He predicted that mounting internal conflicts would lead to the PDP’s total collapse before the end of 2025. According to Ganduje, the ruling APC continues to grow stronger under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with high-profile defections from opposition parties further solidifying the APC’s dominance nationwide.

“With such overwhelming national support, the APC remains focused on consolidating its achievements and preparing for a resounding victory in the 2027 general elections,” the statement read.

Ganduje reiterated his pride in leading what he described as the largest political party in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. He emphasised his administration’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy and promoting sustainable governance.

He also advised Lamido to turn his attention inward. “Rather than making unfounded claims about the APC, Lamido should focus on the deepening crisis within the PDP,” he said.

The APC chairman’s comments followed his controversial statement on Friday, where he said there was nothing inherently wrong with a one-party system in Nigeria. Citing China as an example, Ganduje suggested that if Nigerians support the idea, it should not be resisted.

“China is one of the strongest countries in the world, and it’s a one-party system,” Ganduje noted. “We are not saying we are working for a one-party system, but if that is the wish of Nigerians, we cannot quarrel with that.”
