Gambia Impasse: Yahya Jammeh disappears, has till noon to leave Banjul

Defiant “former” Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh has been given a lifeline till Friday noon to leave Banjul.

ECOWAS has suspended troops’ action until the deadline passes.

The troops, under Operation Restore Democracy, will continue their march into the capital if Jammeh refuses to leave.

Marcel Alain de Souza, head of the 15-nation Economic Community of West African States, said: “We have suspended operations and given him an ultimatum.

“If by midday, he doesn’t agree to leave The Gambia…we really will intervene militarily,” he added.

The troops met no resistance by Gambian troops at the borders when they matched into the capital on Thursday.
