Freed Man Recounts Ordeal With Deadly Kidnappers

He was threatened with death for not being able to raise N5m ransom.

55-year-old father of two, Dupe was among many passengers abducted by notorious kidnappers on July 3, 2019 along Lokoja-Okene road, Kogi state, middle-belt Nigeria, on his way back to Lagos from Abuja.

The technician who went to carry out a maintenance job for one of his clients in Abuja wasn’t aware that he was going to run into kidnappers on his way back. He expressed shock on the incident and the trauma that he went through during that period.

He was threatened with death for not being able to raise N5m ransom.

“I told them my wife can only come up with 250,000 Naira and they said, eh? Don’t worry, ask your wife to keep the money, use it for your burial’,” he said.

After spending three days in the bush, he pleaded with the leader of his abductors for leniency and he agreed to collect the N250,000 and granted him his freedom. Other hostages paid as high as N9m ransom.
