The forecast: This is the population Nigeria in 2100

There could be 400 million people living in Nigeria 35 years from now, the UN has predicted.
The UN said Nigeria’s population could soar to at least 399 million people – that is more than double the current figure of about 150 million.

The UN said the country’s population should continue to increase after the year 2050, and reach 752 million people by the year 2100.
According to the UN prediction, Nigeria and two other African countries will be among the 10 most populous countries in the world by 2050.

By 2100, a total of five African countries will be in the top 10. Africa’s population will soar because of an expected increase in fertility rate – the rate at which people produce children – among other factors.
The expected population growth means African countries must plan for the future.
