Football fans pounce on referee, beat him to coma in Owerri

An official who refereed the match between Heartland Football club, Owerri and defending champion, Plateau United was beaten into coma by irate fans on Monday.
Yusuf Garba officiated the match between both Professional Football League sides and he was attacked after the visiting team equalised through former Osun United Tosin Omoyele’s stoppage-time strike.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw after Thompson put the home side ahead in the 21st minute.
Garba, who suffered a deep cut in his head, was rushed to the hospital where he was recovering from his injuries.
Heartland FC risks getting sanctioned by the FA for the fans’ attack on Garba.
