FIVE reasons Mark Zuckerberg sneaked into Lagos

While we were all minding our businesses, the world’s 5th richest man sneaked into Lagos, literarily.

Hours earlier, he and his wife had wrapped up a much-publicised trip to Rome. And he never mentioned he was going to stop by at our backyard here.

Needless to say, we were all surprised.

His coming was such a well-kept secret, and he has said pretty little since his arrival but following are a few reasons why we think he came to Nigeria.

First, Nigeria has the largest Facebook population in the whole of Africa. And we all know how the young billionaire wants to take over the tech world, literarily.

Second, Andela. It is public knowledge that Mark Zuckerberg is backing the coding start-up which is based in Lagos. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative reportedly contributed about $24 million to the start-up.

Third, Facebook’s developer workshop will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2016.

During the workshops, Facebook Product, Partnerships, and Engineering teams will be provide participants with exclusive, hands-on instruction via code-labs, tech-talks, and updates on the latest Facebook Platform products designed to help build and grow successful businesses.

Fourth, Facebook, reports say, are partnering with Cool Link to set up Express Wifi hotspots in various parts of Lagos.

And fifth, Facebook’s Free Basics has already launched in Nigeria, the 4oth country in the world and 22nd in Africa to have that.
