FIFA Rankings: Nigeria Slides Eight Places to 38th Position
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped eight places in the latest FIFA men’s ranking, released on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The team now occupies the 38th position from its previous 30th spot.
The decline follows a disappointing outing in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, which saw them draw 1-1 with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and lose 2-1 to Benin Republic.
Nigeria has also dropped two places in the African ranking, now sitting fifth behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire.
The top five teams in the world remain unchanged, with Argentina, France, Belgium, Brazil, and England occupying the top spots.
In other notable movements, Liberia rose 10 positions to achieve their highest-ever rank of 142nd, while Equatorial Guinea experienced the largest decline, dropping 10 positions and losing 47.53 points.
