FG to announce new minimum wage soon – NLC
The new minimum wage for Nigerian workers will soon be announced by the Federal Government, Labour President Ayuba Wabba has said.
Wabba said on Monday in Abuja that the outcome of the Tripartite Committee has been submitted to President Buhari.
The organised labour union had embarked on a strike in protest against FG’s refusal to implement the new wage about two weeks ago.
Wabba, NAN reports, said the committee spent two days deliberating on a new minimum wage that was acceptable to all employers of labour in the country. He didn’t reveal the approved sum.
“I want to assure workers that all has been concluded and will be passed for signing within the week,” he said.
“I also want to appreciate the Organised Private Sector, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Nigeria Employers Consultative Association for their resolve to pay the new minimum wage when it is signed into law.”
Nigeria’s minimum wage was last reviewed in 2010 when former President Goodluck Jonathan increased the pay from N7,500 to N18,000.
