The Federal Government has inaugurated a state-of-the-art electronic gate (E-gate) at the departure wing of Lagos’ Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), a significant step towards enhancing passenger comfort and security in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation of Nigeria

The unveiling, led by Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, took place on Friday. Keyamo, in a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) account, described the E-gate as a vital innovation aimed at streamlining passenger facilitation while reinforcing airport security measures.

The E-gate project was realized through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Keyamo highlighted the role of partnerships in driving infrastructure development. He was joined by Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN’s Managing Director, who emphasized the collaborative effort behind the initiative.

These eco-friendly buses are designed with accessibility features for persons with disabilities, aligning with Nigeria’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and adhering to global climate targets.

“These improvements reflect our dedication to modernizing Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure while prioritizing sustainability and inclusivity,” Keyamo noted.
