FG bars commercial motorcycles, tricycles from Lagos-Calabar coastal highway
The federal ministry of works has prohibited commercial motorcycles and tricycles from operating on the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.
The directive will take effect this week, according to a statement issued on Sunday by Olufemi Dare, the federal controller of works in Lagos.
The ministry said the move is part of efforts to improve traffic management, enhance safety, and protect the newly constructed highway from damage caused by improper use.
Officials explained that the restriction is aimed at preserving the multi-billion-naira infrastructure and preventing premature deterioration of the road.
Francis Nwaze, senior special assistant to David Umahi, minister of works, confirmed the development in a conversation with TheCable on Monday.
He clarified that the ban affects only commercial motorcycles and tricycles, noting that privately owned motorcycles and dispatch riders are still permitted to use the highway.
“All highways in Lagos, commercial motorcycles are banned. Private bikes and delivery bikes are not affected,” Nwaze said.
The Lagos-Calabar coastal highway is one of the federal government’s flagship infrastructure projects designed to improve transportation links and stimulate economic activities across Nigeria’s coastal corridor.
