“My fellow gamblers, I am sorry” – Final year student writes before committing suicide

Police in Enugu have obtained a suicide note left behind by a final year student of Agriculture Economics and a native of Awgu in Enugu State, Mr Tobechukwu Okeke, in which he apologised to his “fellow gamblers.”

The Enugu Police Command on Tuesday, November 29, said it has launched investigation into the alleged suicide by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) student.

In a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ebere Amarizu, Okeke was said to have been found hanging lifeless from a ceiling fan hook in his room on Sunday, November 27.

The Command said that a note written by the deceased to his friends and relations was found at the scene of the alleged suicide.

“I got it all wrong when I rejected Jesus. God gave me wisdom, God gave me all I needed to succeed. I rejected Him,” a part of Okeke’s suicide note read.

He further wrote: “My fellow gamblers, I am sorry; my fellow lions, I am sorry; my family, I let you all down.”

Okeke’s body, according to the Command, had been deposited at the Bishop Shanahan Hospital Mortuary, Nsukka.
