FCT Police arrest businessman allegedly posing as AIG

A man allegedly posing as a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police has been arrested by the police in Abuja.

Olawale Olatunji, 59, was nabbed at a bank in Kubwa, FCT, while allegedly trying to swindle unsuspecting victims with a promise to get them contracts at the Police Air Wing Department.

Police authorities say he was caught in possession of eleven ATM cards and ten chequebooks of different banks.

Police boss in the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Ciroma, said on Wednesday that his operatives got wind of the suspect’s activities on December 10. Ciroma said letterheads of different companies were also recovered from Olatunji.

The suspect denied he was out to defraud anyone, but claimed ownership of the items which included fake Police Air Wing receipts. He asked to be taken to court as he was sure he hadn’t committed any crime.

“A pastor introduced me to someone as a retired AIG, but I didn’t defraud anyone. The ATM cards and chequebooks are for my bank accounts, which were opened for my business with different companies,” he claimed.
