FCT-IRS Extends Tax Return Filing Deadline to April 30

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has announced a one-month extension for the submission of individual annual income tax returns, moving the deadline from March 31 to April 30, 2026.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Acting Executive Chairman Michael Ango explained that although the statutory deadline remains March 31 each year, the extension was granted to allow taxpayers more time to file accurate returns and enhance compliance across the Federal Capital Territory.

Ango also said that voluntary tax compliance is both a civic responsibility and a vital contribution to national development. He encouraged residents to take advantage of the extended period to fulfill their obligations promptly.

He also reaffirmed that all filings must be completed electronically through the FCT-IRS tax portal, as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital tax administration system.

“Taxpayers are advised to submit their returns through the official FCT-IRS portal,” Ango stated, adding that accurate personal information—including National Identification Number (NIN), phone numbers, and residential addresses—should be provided during registration to prevent delays in processing.

The extension follows a similar move by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), which recently shifted its own filing deadline to April 14.
