Faulty circuit causes fire outbreak at Ministry of Works HQ
It would have been a devastating turn of events if workers who left their homes in search of daily bread ended up with fire scars or dead.
On Friday, the Ministry of Works at Mabushi had a minor fire incident that may have resulted in a conflagration had the fire not been put out on time.
The incident occurred not long after workers resumed for the day.
According to a credible report, the fire emanated from the ground floor after a spark from a faulty circuit breaker but was contained and put out before causing any serious damage.
Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Mohammed A. Ahmed, while confirming the incident, said, “A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of the Ministry. “The incident was as a result of a spark from a faulty circuit breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor.
“The Station Commander, Federal Fire Service, Federal Ministry of Works, Headquarters, Mr. Kekai Bekebi, informed me that there was a quick response from his team, who were able to put the situation under control by deploying available fire extinguishers. He added that a successful evacuation exercise of staff was also carried out”.
The Director, Human Resource Management, Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi stated that “no loss of document, no injuries, and no casualties were recorded, as he further commended the staff for their general conduct while the incident lasted”.
Reports suggest that activities have returned to normal after the fire was contained.
