Academic activities resume in YabaTech after fire outbreak

Students of Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech) can now return to school as academic activities are set to resume five days after the fire incident that razed the Bakassi female hall.

Lectures and exams had been suspended upon the fire outbreak that left several students shocked and injured on November 23, and many students in their 3rd year of National Diploma lamented that the session that was supposed to end this year would be stretched into 2017.

The Director, Public Relations Unit of the college, Dr Charles Oni, has however allayed the students’ fears, saying that semester examination would now resume properly on Wednesday, November 30.

“Academic activities will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 29, while examination continues on Wednesday,” Oni said to NAN.

“As at Friday, when the representative of the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, visited the college, only two students were still on admission at the Military Hospital, Yaba.

“The college did not completely close; normal work is going except the academic activities that were suspended,” he explained.

The fire outbreak it was gathered, happened as a result of an electrical surge in one of the rooms in the hall.
