They’re threatening to kill my daughter, burn my office – Falana on VDM allegation
Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) has disclosed that some people are threatening to harm his family if he proceeds to court over the allegations made by a blogger, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The revered lawyer made this known in an interview with Sahara TV posted via YouTube on Monday, October 7, 2024, where he provided further details of his long-standing commitment to defending human rights without financial gain.
This is the sequel to the claim by VDM that Falana offered to seek a presidential pardon for transgender crossdresser, Idris Okuneye also known as Bobrisky, in exchange for N10 million.
He described the allegation as infantile and ridiculous, stressing that he has never charged fees to write letters of pardon.
“As a policy, we do not collect fees to write letters for pardon. It is not part of our system because we do not profit from the tragedy of people,” he stated.
Falana says his family receives death threats
Recall that in the wake of the allegation, Falana’s daughter and entertainment lawyer, Folakemi Falana, had threatened that her family would sue VDM for defamation.
However, her father revealed last week that he would rather pursue a civil course to repair the damage done to the family’s name by the allegation.
But in the interview on Monday, he expressed sadness over the disturbing action of people, who are threatening to burn down his office and kill her daughter if he dares take the matter to court.
”The only disturbing area in this scenario is the threat to me and one of my two daughters, some of the guys who I believe are mentally deranged are daring me. ‘If you go to court, we shall burn your office.’
”They’ve also sent messages to one of my daughters that ‘if your father goes to court, we shall kill you.’ I beg your pardon, in this country.
”I just laughed and I asked my girl don’t worry, I will take it up. I have already taken that up because we must also let these guys know where we’re coming from,” he said.
