Ex-Ogun LG councillor, Mutiu Akinbami, killed by gunmen

Twin Attacks in Northern Nigeria Leave 22 Dead as Violence Surges

Former Councillor in Abeokuta North Local Government of Ogun State, Mutiu Akinbami, has been murdered. The incident was confirmed by a spokesperson of the State Police Command, Omolola Odutola.

Akinbami is said to have been shot by suspected cultists at the Brewery area of Abeokuta around 6:40 pm.

He is believed to have been riding his motorcycle when death struck on Friday, November 15, 2024.

According to the Police statement, arrests have been made, with investigations still ongoing.

“The Divisional Police Office of Lafenwa received a report at about 6:40 p.m., that Mutiu Akinbami, a man from Olomore Housing Estate, had been shot near the Brewery,” she stated. 

“According to the information, the deceased was riding home on a motorcycle when he was shot from behind by one of the masked occupants of an unregistered white tinted glass Hilux.

“The divisional police officer quickly mobilised patrol teams to the location and transported the victim to Ijaiye General Hospital, Abeokuta where a doctor confirmed him dead.

“Arrests have been made and further details will be provided as investigation continues,” Odutola revealed.

Before his death, the spokesperson revealed that Akinbami was on the wanted list of the Police.
