Yahaya Bello Appears Before EFCC, Declares He Has ‘Nothing to Hide’

Judge Leaves Courtroom After Bello Pleads Not Guilty to N110bn Fraud Charges

Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), following a five-month delay after the initial invitation from the anti-graft agency.

The visit was confirmed on Wednesday by his media office in a statement signed by Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office.

Bello, who is facing ongoing investigations over allegations of financial impropriety during his tenure as governor, reportedly consulted with his family, legal team, and political associates before deciding to appear at the EFCC headquarters.

The former governor, accompanied by several prominent Nigerians, is facing charges related to the laundering of N80.2 billion.

The statement emphasised Bello’s commitment to clearing his name, stating that he has “nothing to hide and nothing to fear.”

“The case has been before a competent court of jurisdiction, and Alhaji Yahaya Bello had been duly represented by his legal team at every hearing. It is important for the former Governor to now honour the invitation of the EFCC to clear his name,” the statement read.

Bello’s media office also highlighted his support for President Bola Tinubu’s anti-corruption agenda and the broader fight against corruption in Nigeria.

“The former Governor believes firmly in the efforts of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to place Nigeria on the path of sustainable economic development.”

In April, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede had vowed to ensure Bello’s prosecution, threatening to resign if the case against the former governor is not brought to a “logical conclusion.”
