“Even Pat Utomi didn’t get my book” – Ben Bruce tells “humiliated” UNILAG students

Nigerian senator Ben Bruce was at the receiving end of scathing remarks from students who were invited to the senator’s 60th birth party “only to be humiliated.”
One of students, from the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), said the senator’s handlers refused giving them food at the event.
The student also said that, contrary to what was promised, they were not given free copies of Ben Bruce’s new book “The Common Sense Revolution.” The student said Bruce, while treating his “elite” guests respectfully, humiliated the students.

Ben Bruce, who clocked 60 on Friday, has apologised for the way the students were treated and has offered a fix. He said some of his friends, and even prominent Nigerian Pat Utomi, got no free copy.
He tweeted his apology and amends on Saturday. Here are the tweets:
I read about the complaints of the students of the University of Lagos, Mass Comm. Dept over the treatment meted to them at #BenBruceAt60.
The summary is that they were seated upstairs while other guests were seated downstairs and they did not get a book #BenBruceAt60.
I apologise to the students for this treatment. I was seated at my table during the event & I could not have been everywhere #BenBruceAt60.
My friends including @UtomiPat did not get books either. I only knew after the event. The demand was high and they sold out #BenBruceAt60.
I was told that there were 54 UNILAG students there. I have ordered 54 copies for them and they can pick it up by Friday #BenBruceAt60.
I also announced at the event on live TV that the books are available for free download on my site http://benbruce.org #BenBruceAt60.
Its not easy organising a live event featuring 5k guests. Hitches will happen. I’m sorry and I am committed to rectifying it #BenBruceAt60.
