Eunice Elisha: Slain Abuja preacher set for July 23 burial

News of Eunice’s death would be too great a shock Pa Ayodele Akun, the family says.
Eunice’s hailing father, Pa Ayodele Akun is not aware of his daughter’s tragic death.

Eunice Elisha, the Nigerian woman killed while preaching in Abuja, will be buried this Saturday.

“We planned to hold her wake-keep in Lagos but there’s not enough time to make that happen,” Apata Emmanuel, a nephew to the deceased 42-year-old, told NewsroomNG on Monday morning.

“We have decided to move everything to Abuja.

“The wake keep will hold on Friday July 22 while her burial will hold the following day,” Apata had posted to Facebook on Sunday.

“We pray for open heaven upon the entire programmes in Jesus name Amen. We are grateful for your calls and encouragement. I use this medium to invite all my friends in Abuja and Lagos to join me in celebration of the megaphone woman in Abuja.”

Eunice Elisha, 42-year-old mother of seven, reportedly killed while preaching in Abuja.

Eunice was a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) where her husband Olawale Elisha is pastor.

Church general overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye had visited the family promising the church would do everything necessary to give the slain woman a proper burial.

As preparations for Eunice’s funeral hit top gear, her hailing 72-year-old father Pa Ayodele Akun thinks she’s still alive.

The family said they lacked the courage to let the old man in on the tragic news. Eunice’s mother took ill and was hospitalised after learning of her daughter’s alleged murder.

Baba Akun has been ill for about two months now. Apata said the family is not interested in complicating his situation.

No thanks to Eunice's killers, Mr Elisha is now widowed with seven mouths to feed.

“We still haven’t told Baba Akun about Eunice’s death,” Apata told our correspondent.

“He’s in hospital as I speak to you. We are trying to manage the situation properly. If Baba is certified fit today, we may break the sad news to him early this week.

“If not, we will still have to tell him so the news could be delayed till Thursday. We can’t bury Eunice without Baba’s knowledge.”

Apata said the Saturday burial was approved by the family because Eunice’s autopsy, carried out by experts to determine the cause of death, was due Monday.

RCCG paid N1.5 million for the autopsy, Apata said. The autopsy will help police determine the real cause of Eunice’s death.

Police said six people have been arrested in connection to the killing. We couldn’t reach the police to comment on this story..
