Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has launched a Food Palliative Scheme called Eto Igbe Ayo.

This, he says, is to cushion the effect of the present economic hardship in Nigeria.

The governor flagged off the programme, Tuesday, at Akoko North East Local Government Secretariat in Ikare Akoko.

About 100,000 women are to benefit from the scheme.

Although the governor paints the move as purely economic, many believe that it is not unrelated with the state governorship election slated for November.

Mr Olalekan Olajobi, a governorship aspirant of the People for Democratic Change (PDC) is one of those who are not buying into the governor’s economic palliative narrative.

He’s asked the people of the state to accept the governor’s food and still vote out the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the upcoming election.

“After impoverishing the people of the state, governor Mimiko is now trying to woo the people ahead of the coming governorship election

“The reason there are so much poverty in Ondo state is because the government has not paid salary for over six months

“Now we can rightly say that the governor has intentionally refused to pay salary so as to use poverty to oppress, intimidate and woe the good people of the state

“Since Ondo state is a civil service state, the total population of the states depend largely on the workforce, non payment of salary has brought so much pain on the people ” Olajobi said

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti is credited for popularising the “stomach infrastructure” tactics. It’s popular knowledge that he rode smoothly back to office employing that tactic..
