EFCC vows never to back down after gunmen attack Chairman’s residence

 

Following the attack on the house of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mr. Ibrahim Magu on Tuesday night, the commission has declared that it would not be frightened into not investigating financial crimes.

Magu escaped death by the whiskers as some gunmen stormed his house in Abuja on Tuesday night, killing one police guard in the process. It is the second time Magu would be attacked in such manner.

However, a statement by the EFCC says its chairman and officers would not be intimidated by this constant show of force.

‘While the commission will not speculate on the motives for the attack or the sponsors, it wishes to state that the EFCC under the leadership of Ibrahim Magu will not be deterred in its mission to rid Nigeria of corruption.’

The attack came just a day after Magu had doubled down on his determination to rid the country of corruption during a walk to mark the anti-corruption day.

‘For those of us on this side; in the anti-corruption agencies of government, in the media, and civil society, the dagger is drawn and I believe I am speaking the mind of everyone on this side that we intend to neither retreat nor surrender in our noble intention to cure our country of the evils of corruption. For us as a country, the fight against corruption is a ‘do or die’ affair; we have to win the battle or die trying…’
