Ebonyi police burst suspected organ harvesters, 177 apprehended

In an organised operation, the Ebonyi State Police Command at a conference in Abakaliki on Friday announced that a suspected ritualists specialized in body mutilation and organ harvesting have been arrested.

Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu,speaking on behalf of CP Anthonia Uche-Anya noted that one hundred and seventy seven (177) suspected criminals have been arrested, which include 162 males and 15 females.

Out of the One hundred and seventy seven, Ninety-two suspects have been charged to court, while others are still pending and awaiting further investigation.

According to him, the command is largely focused on reducing crime in the state drastically to ensure safety.

“The command has employed strategic steps, including increased stakeholder engagement, to reduce crime to the barest minimum”.

Amongst the cases being investigated, was that of Mr Idenyi Chikezie, who was last seen on a business trip to Lagos in September.

His wife, Mrs Blessing Chikezie reported her husband missing on October 11 which led to a swift investigation by the Ebonyi Police.

“Command operatives from the Anti-kidnapping Unit, through diligent investigation, arrested Innocent Elebe and Eze Elechi. Their statements led to the arrest of Obinna Nwanguru and Oda Peter”.

“They confessed to killing Idenyi Chikezie, Chibu Odii, and Eze Fabian on different dates, attempting to extract their blood/organs for use in treating a cognitively impaired person (Down syndrome)”, he said.

He also noted that the bodies of two victims have been recovered, while efforts to recover the third victim hasn’t been successful yet.
