Earthquake in Turkey: We are in touch with some of our citizens – By Nigerian embassy

Ismail Yusuf Abba and President Erdogan

Further to our letter Ref. No. ENA/AD/83/IX dated Bth February 2023,

I am directed to inform you as follows:

2. The Embassy is in touch with some Nigerian residents in Adana, Gaziantep and Sanliurfa, who are currently displaced including the affected Nigerians as a result of the general devastation in the areas. Available records indicate that no Nigerian is amongst the dead or injured thus far.

3. The Turkish government is providing appropriate shelter for all displaced persons including Nigerians. However, consular access is currently impossible because only aid teams and vehicles carrying aid materials are allowed to enter the affected provinces.

This is within the context of the large-scale search, rescue and humanitarian activities being implemented by Turkish authorities in conjunction with international bodies. Accordingly, any Nigerian in the affected provinces is advised to avail himself of the general provisions by Turkish government in their domain.

4. The Embassy is currently operating the following hotlines to handle any consular emergency:
