DSS to arraign El-Rufai February 25
The Department of State Services (DSS) is set to arraign Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, on Wednesday, February 25, over allegations of cybercrime and threats to national security.
El-Rufai will appear before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The planned arraignment follows a series of investigations involving multiple security agencies. On February 18, the DSS briefly detained the former governor after he had spent two nights in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
During an appearance last Saturday on Prime Time, a programme aired by Arise Television, el-Rufai claimed that an individual had wiretapped the phone of Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA). He alleged that through the intercepted call, he overheard the NSA instructing security operatives to arrest him.
On Monday, the DSS filed a three-count charge against the former governor, accusing him of unlawfully intercepting the NSA’s telephone conversation. According to the agency, the alleged actions violate provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024, as well as the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
Meanwhile, el-Rufai remains in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged corruption during his tenure as Kaduna State governor.
