Double Tragedy: Man stabs adversary to death during burial ceremony in Ogun
There was double tragedy at a burial ceremony in Ogun State on Sunday when one of the attendees allegedly stabbed another man to death with a broken bottle.
The state police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect, identified as Julius Oliseh stabbed one Isikilu Shittu to death as they engaged in an argument over an undisclosed matter.
Oyeyemi said Oliseh, 32, was arrested at about 2pm after he was reported by the victim’s brother, Akeem Shittu to the Mowe Police Station.
Akeem had reported that he was at a burial party with his 23-year-old brother in Ogunru Village, when the incident happened.
He told the police that the suspected killer broke a bottle during the argument, stabbed the victim on the neck, and he died on the spot.
“Upon the report, the DPO Mowe Division, CSP Francis Ebhuoma, led his men to the scene where the suspect who has been struggling to escape was promptly arrested and taken to the station for interrogation,” Oyeyemi said in a statement.
Iskilu’s body has been deposited at the general hospital morgue for autopsy, the police spokesperson said.
Oliseh has been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for proper investigation and prosecution.
