‘Don’t Blame APC for LP Internal Crisis’ – Abure Camp

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has fired back at former presidential candidate Peter Obi, insisting the ongoing crisis within the party is self-inflicted, not orchestrated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This comes in response to Obi’s recent claims that the APC infiltrated the LP and fueled its internal crisis. However, LP National Secretary, Umar Ibrahim, in a statement issued Tuesday, dismissed the allegations and pointed the finger at Obi himself.

“We sincerely hope that he should introspect and move away from these ill-conceived narratives,” the statement read.

“It is therefore pertinent to put on record that the problem with the Labour Party was not created by the ruling party (APC), rather the problem in the Labour Party was created and sustained by Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, who is presently serving suspension for anti-party activities.”

Ibrahim challenged Obi to “produce any tangible or intangible evidence” that Abure’s leadership is “in bed with the APC-led government.”

He further criticized Obi’s leadership style during the 2023 general elections, describing it as inadequate.

“When good leaders fail, they should own up to their responsibilities. Obi failed to provide leadership for the party.

“He should own up to his mistakes. It is therefore shameful for Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti to continue to accuse the government of infiltrating the Labour Party and by so doing demarketing the party.”

Ibrahim insisted that Abure’s leadership “has come to stay and nothing can change that”
