A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Adamawa has sentenced a student of Adamawa State Polytechnic to 12 years imprisonment for attempted murder.

The student, Luka Shuaibu, was said to have attempted to slaughter his girlfriend Salkida Ishaya, sometime last year. He had accused her of not being trustworthy, reports say.

Shehu Ahmad said his sentence was based on the witnesses, testimonies as well as admission of guilt by the convict. He however ruled that unsatisfied parties can file an appeal against the judgment.

The judgement was deemed by many as an appropriate measure of deterring others who subject their partners to abuse.
