Asari Dokubo accuses Tinubu of using Wike to destabilise Rivers
Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has accused President Bola Tinubu of supporting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to disturb the peace in River State.
Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, have been entangled in a supremacy battle over the political control of the oil-rich state for over a year.
The feud also extended to the State House of Assembly, with all but four lawmakers taking sides with the FCT minister.
A crisis broke out across the state after the October 5 local government elections, with buildings in five LG secretariats set ablaze.

Dokubo says Tinubu backing Wike
Appearing on Arise TV on Tuesday, Dokubo expressed his disappointment at the ongoing crisis in the South-South state, threatening that ‘something will happen’ if the governor is impeached.
The former militant leader stressed that he’s disappointed that the President has refused to reign in Wike, alleging that the former Governor has continued to procure court judgements to destabilise Rivers.
“What I’m trying to say is that with Bola Tinubu becoming president, I should be able to tell him the truth. What is happening in Rivers State where Bola Tinubu is supporting Nyesom Wike to destabilise Rivers State and disturb the peace of Rivers State, as a stakeholder in Rivers State, I feel totally disappointed for the president to allow his minister serving under him to run amok and procure judgement and all sort, threatening the people of Rivers State.
“What they are trying to do is that we’re going to remove Fubara, and nothing will happen. What I’m saying is that if you try to remove Fubara, something will happen. That is what I’m talking about. I’m not talking of any personal benefit; I can’t be appointed minister or to any board; I didn’t lobby for anything,” he stated.
Dokubo recently accused Tinubu of betraying him and the Ijaw people after he went all out to support him in the 2023 election.
He claimed to have deployed his resources to canvass for votes for the former Lagos State Governor during the presidential election but has now been abandoned.
When asked about his earlier declaration that he should be held responsible if the President fails to deliver, Dokubo said he stands by his words.
“I still stand by that statement. That is why I’m crying out because I’m vigorously liable for any expectation of the Nigerian people, not just the Niger Delta people. This is because I stood in front of everybody, and I’m not going to deny what I said.
“Even if it’s tomorrow and Ahmed Bola Tinubu encounters any difficulty, I’ll still stick out my neck and stand. At the stand he stood for me, I would have been dead and not be in this programme talking. Obasanjo would have killed me if not for people like Tinubu who stood by me. So, I’m not going to be in a hurry to forget that,” he added.
