Disclaimer! “My messages are not for everybody” – Pastor Adeboye

Just as cigarette manufacturers warn their customers of the adverse effects of smoking, foremost Nigerian Pastor and General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A. Adeboye seem to have issued what could be described as a stellar disclaimer to all his followers.

This follows widespread controversies that trailed a message of his which recently went viral in social media circles.

In the video, the religious leader had told his audience not to marry a woman that could not cook or pray for at least one hour among other things.

The condemnation that followed was widespread and intense but then supporters of the general overseer had defended him saying he was not talking to everybody.

Adeboye himself has now echoed that defence suggesting that those who follow his words may be doing so at their own risk.

“My messages are not for everybody,” he wrote on his verified Facebook page.

“So I plead with you, ask God to speak to you specifically.”

The disclaimer preceded a series of short messages on Adeboye’s social media platforms, Tuesday evening.

It is no secret that the bulk of the backlashes that Adeboye and his colleagues in the clergy have received in recent times have been based on their perceived desire to “act as god” to their followers by telling them what to do.

While there may not be a scientific way to prove they have that desire, the kind of mob, often somewhat occult, followership they command in the country – and outside it in some cases – and their silence about it may just indicate they enjoy it.

But Adeboye seem to have gotten the message.

Whether his large base of followers will heed his cue this time is another question entirely..
