Disabled boy crushed to death by driver in Lagos

Suleiman Ganiyu, the Chief Imam of Onirin Mosque in the Epetedo Area of Lagos Island has expressed grief over the death of his son, Ibrahim who was knocked down by a Ford car with plate number  KRD-437-EJ.

The incident which occurred when the boy whose father revealed to be deaf and dumb was on his way to play football with his friends has left the 51-year old man devastated. The driver who is identified as Neil Iwara was reported to have hit him as he wanted to cross the expressway in the Ilubirin axis of Adeniji-Adele, Lagos.

“I saw him before going out for a ceremony that day. When I got back, he had yet to return, so I was worried. I even thought maybe he had missed his way home, so I informed his mother and we began searching all around for him,” Imam Ganiyu said.

Ganiyu also disclosed that he had reported his son’s disappearance to the police and with the help of his friends and relatives he had spread word on social media for information regarding his whereabouts.

The police contacted him during the week to inform him of the accident and referred him to Lagos Island General Hospital where the boy was taken. On reaching there, he was directed to the morgue where he was told Ibrahim had died on the way to the hospital.

“I have retrieved his corpse and buried him according to Islamic rites. I also told the police that I was not interested in pressing charges against the driver of the vehicle that knocked down my son,” he said.

The driver who was already arrested at Adeniji-Adele Police Station may not be charged to court at the request of the boy’s family, but the Police says it is investing the case.
