Dangote Group: We Are Yet to Supply NNPC, Rejects ₦897 Price Claim
Dangote Group has clarified that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has not yet commenced lifting petrol from its refinery, contradicting recent media reports.
The clarification follows a headline ‘NNPC lifts Dangote Petrol, sells at N897 per litre’ in BusinessDay which alleged that NNPC lifted Dangote Petrol and sold it at ₦897 per liter.
However, in a statement, Dangote Group’s Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, refuted the claims, stressing that no contract has been finalised with NNPC for petrol lifting from the 650,000 barrel per day facility in Lagos.
“NNPC has not yet commenced lifting refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from our Dangote Petroleum Refinery,” Chiejina confirmed, urging the public to disregard the misleading report.
Chiejina emphasised that the pricing of petroleum products is tightly regulated by the government, and Dangote Refinery cannot unilaterally set or influence prices.
“The issue of fixing the price of petrol from our refinery does not arise,” he stated.
Despite the controversy, Dangote Group reassured Nigerians that high-quality petroleum products would be available nationwide once agreements are finalised.
This clarification comes at a time when fuel prices and availability remain sensitive issues in the country, with the public eagerly awaiting the refinery’s impact on the market.
