Customs Intercepts ₦265m Worth of Cannabis in Lagos
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted 51.25 kilogrammes of cannabis indica valued at ₦265 million at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) in Lagos.
The intercepted drugs, which occurred on September 11, were handed over to officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Customs Area Controller of KLT, Joy Edeldouk, emphasised the ongoing commitment of the service to safeguard the nation’s borders against illicit substances.
“This seizure is a testament to our resolve to protect our borders from the dangers of illegal imports. We will not relent in our efforts to rid the country of these harmful substances,” she said.
Edeldouk revealed that the operation involved collaboration between the Customs Service and NDLEA. She warned that the command would continue to pursue those engaged in illegal trade.
“Our message is clear—there is no room for criminality in the NCS. Anyone caught violating the law will face the full weight of the legal system,” she reiterated.
While handing over the seized drugs, Edeldouk cited the profound societal impact of such substances, particularly on vulnerable youths.
“The destructive effects of drugs like cannabis cannot be overstated. By intercepting this consignment, we have potentially saved many lives and prevented an increase in crime and violence,” she noted.
The suspects, along with the drugs, are currently under NDLEA custody for further investigation and prosecution.
